Pop music has been ruling the world for ages. The dawn of this popular musical genre in the mid-1950s and early 60s made the world go gaga over it. The catchy lyrics, danceable music, and repeated choruses spellbound the people to the Pop genre.It is often characterised as singles-based music focused on youngsters.

Internet pitched in and helped Pop music to become a global influencer. The music industry has grown massively with new artists coming up every day from all over the world.

POP BANDS

Believe me, it is a feast for the eyes to watch a group of people singing, dancing, and playing instruments. And when it’s Pop music, they are performing it is going to be out of the world.

Pop bands have always been in demand. A pop group comprises either three, four, or more artists. Each group has vocalists, guitarists, drummers, and sometimes rappers. A music band with male artists is called a Boy Band, where the one with the female artists is called a Girl Group.

History says that the trend of boy band music began in the late 19th century. But the notion of boy band came into light in when The Beatles set foot in.

The list of Pop bands goes a long way. Let’s have a glance at some best pop bands.

THE BEATLES

The Beatles have considered being the first and the original boy band. They laid the foundation for modern pop and rock music. The members of this English Pop/Rock band John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr took over the world in the 1960s. They rocked the world for a decade. The Beatles are the smash hit music act ever, with certified sales of more than 183 million units in the US and assessed sales of 600 million units around the world. Beatlemania is still in the air.

SPICE GIRLS

In the male dominant music scene, the Girl Power made an iconic breakthrough. Spice Girls is an English pop girl group formed in the year 1994. The group comprises Melanie Brown, also known as Mel B, Melanie Chisholm, also known as Mel C, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, and Victoria Beckham. The debut single ‘Wannabe’ of this five-member group bought them global success hitting no.1 in the music charts. They hold the record for the best selling music album by a female group in history with their debut album Spice. The group got labelled as the biggest-selling pop act in the late 1990s.

The youth were in awe of this bundle of spice. The girls opened doors for many female pop artists and groups. They had a four-member(excluding Beckham) second reunion and went on a tour in 2019. You go, girls!

ONE DIRECTION

One Direction is a British-Irish pop band formed in 2010. The five bandmates Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik became the most beloved band. They are one of the most successful pop boy bands in the world. They made their debut with their single What makes you beautiful with their debut album at no 1 on Billboard album chart after its release.

The boys’ amazing vocal skills and mesmerizing stage presence bought them an incredible fan base all over the world. 1D was the biggest boy band in the world before Zayn split up from the band, which was heart-breaking for the fans. The rest of the bandmates continued as a four-member band and released an album and went on an indefinite hiatus at the end of the same year. The boys parted their ways in different directions to make their solo careers. Directioners are still waiting with their eyes wide open for a 1D comeback(fingers crossed).

K-POP

BTS

Needless to say, the US and UK have been dominating the music industry for years. Times have changed. The music lovers are turning their heads slightly from them and looking somewhere else! You guessed it right.

K-Pop in-short for Korean Pop is conquering the music world right now. K-pop entered international music scenes in the 90s. Many k-pop artists emerged since then. K-Pop idols like Psy, EXO, Girls’ Generation, BTS, BlackPink, and many more got a warm welcome from the people all over the world. Social media has a big hand in connecting artists and fans globally irrespective of language barriers. Music is indeed the universal language.

BTS

BTS, a seven-member boy band became a worldwide sensation in no time. RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook began their journey as a band in 2013 and became global artists in 2014 with their album Skool Luv Affair appearing on the world album charts, hitting no. 3.

BTS is the biggest boy band on the planet now with sold-out arenas, many awards, remarkable achievements, and massive fan base call themselves as BTS ARMY. They are the first K-Pop artists to perform on Grammy’s. The boy band has become phenomenal because of their outstanding vocals, killer dance moves, charismatic appearance, and amazing sense of style. The group’s music focuses on teenagers, bullying, mental health, and self-love.

BLACKPINK

BlackPink in your area! This k-pop group consisting of members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa is one of the biggest girl groups in the world. They are the first and only K-pop girl group to enter and top Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart. They make the first female K-pop group to have four no.1 singles on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart.

BlackPink broke YouTube’s 24-hour viewing record by beating BTS with 82.4 million views on their new single How you like that released on 26 June. Seems like Blinks are doing a great job.
